Is streaming audio truncated to 16-bit 44KHz even for more capable devices?

In reading through this website, it appears that this software uses Airplay or a AP-compatible implementation ONLY to communicate with various devices. Is this correct?

If I have some 16/44 devices and some that are capable of HD music playback, will they all be trunked to the 16/44 limitations?

If I have a Raspberry Pi2 that is not limited in bitrate and depth, will it send an HD file to that device, but send a truncated or resampled file to an Apple device?

Will is do this properly when sending to both at the same time?

Because of the vast differences of audio fidelity found across the supported devices we have opted to send everything as 16-bit 44.1kHz and letting the endpoint up-sample or down-sample as needed.

That being said, we are interested in adding support for sending higher fidelity audio to the endpoints that can support it. However implementing this would be fairly involved so we decided to postpone it for now.

This feature request implies the feature that you want (because without it the feature would be useless). If it gets enough votes then we will accelerate the development timeline.
